Configuring Android Email

Follow the steps below to configure your device to access DigiPen’s email.

  • Go to “Email” on your android device.
  • Enter your email address: studentname@digipen.edu
  • Enter your password.
  • Tap on “Manual Setup”.
  • You will be prompted with 3 types of account.
    • POP3
    • IMAP
    • Exchange
  • Choose “IMAP”.
  • Configure “Incoming Settings”.
    • Enter your username only. (Please remove @digipen.edu if it’s there.)
    • Enter your password.
    • Enter your IMAP server: imap.digipen.edu
    • Enter the port: 993
    • Choose Security Type: SSL/TLS
    • (If 993 fails, use port 143 with STARTTLS)
    • Tap “Next”. Your Android will now do a check on the incoming settings.
  • Configure “Outgoing Settings”.
    • Enter your SMTP server: smtp.digipen.edu
    • Enter the port: 587
    • Choose Security Type: STARTTLS
    • Tick on “Require sign-in”.
    • Enter your username only.
    • Enter your password.
    • Tap “Next”. Your Android will now do a check on the outgoing settings.
  • You are done with DigiPen’s configurations. Next few configurations will be your personal preference.

Server settings at a glance

Setting Value
Incoming server (IMAP) imap.digipen.edu, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS
Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.digipen.edu, port 587, encryption STARTTLS
Username your DigiPen user ID (not the full email address)

If port 993 does not connect, use 143 with STARTTLS instead. Port 993 is encrypted from the first byte (clients call this SSL/TLS); port 143 starts in the clear and upgrades (STARTTLS). Pairing them the other way round will fail.

Do not tick “accept all certificates”. The mail servers present a valid certificate for *.digipen.edu. If your device warns about the certificate, stop and email helpdesk.sg@digipen.edu — that warning is worth reading, not clicking through.
